Our Thanks

To all who came forward & sent words of encouragement & donations to help pay for Abbey's treatment.   Sweet Abbey crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on Feb. 19, 2003.  We knew her condition was terminal.  When it progressed to the point that fluid was starting to build up & she was beginning to be uncomfortable, Mary allowed her a controlled, peaceful crossing.  Abbey had the best 10 years any pup who started out dodging wine bottles under a bridge could hope to have.  She was loved & cherished & she left this world cradled in the arms of the human to whom she had devoted her love & loyalty.  She will be missed but never forgotten.

ABBEY
needs our help

Abbey is a dog a friend of mine rescued from under a bridge in Dallas.  Mary, Abbey's guardian, is a Dallas Police Officer.

Abbey was a very young puppy, weighing less than four pounds, trying to get warm by the fire under the bridge, but the homeless men were throwing their wine bottles at her.  Mary had a call to go to and couldn't get her right then but she warned the men to do no further harm to the pup.  Later that night Mary came back and spent the better part of an hour to find her.  That is where their shared life began.  Both Mary and Abbey ended up with the ideal situation .. Mary with a loyal, devoted bundle of furry love & Abbey with a safe, secure forever home.  She is a strong dog, the only one to survive her litter under that bridge in Dallas.  Abbey loves her walks and loves children.  She is the epitome of a grateful rescue, one of 3 rescues that make up Mary's family.

Abbey fell ill last Thursday night and underwent surgery Friday morning for Hemangiosarcoma, an aggressive cancer that arises from the blood vessels.   This was completely unexpected and Mary's financial ability to meet this need has been overwhelmed.  The bill totals over $2400 so far and further chemo treatments, etc. will add another $3K - $4K to it.

Mary is a single middle-aged woman living on a police officers salary.  She does not have Veterinary Insurance to help with this expense.  She is willing to sell her modest home to pay for Abbey's medical care but we pray it won't come to that.  Mary does so much for animal rescue and for people in need that it is only right that we help her & Abbey thru this.

Abbey is being treated by Dr. Clarey & Dr. Downs at the Animal Hospital of Rowlett, 9501 Lakeview Parkway, Rowlett, Texas 75084.   Donations can be made toward her bill by sending them directly to the hospital - please be sure to clearly mark that it is for Abbey's treatment.  Alternatively,  donations may be sent directly to:

Thank You
