| Paula & Pepper are 2 beautiful girls that came to us under very
different circumstances. Pepper is a
sweet tempered little girl who had never really known love in her life
before she came to the Sanctuary. She was a country yard dog, left pretty
much to her own devices & lucky to be fed occasionally. When she
came to the Sanctuary, she had 11 puppies that were still nursing. Pepper came from Joplin, which is a wide spot on Hwy 199 about 14 miles south of Jacksboro, better known as "Dog Dump of Jack County". The nice lady that told us about these babies, lives there. Pepper & her puppies were discovered by her daughter, who saw all the puppies while visiting and ask what they were going to do with them. Their answer? "Oh, we'll just take them off somewhere". That's when this wonderful lady called us. Pepper is now about 3 yrs old, about 35 lbs, spayed & vetted & ready for a forever home of her own. She is very affectionate with those of us who have cared for her. She willingly returns our love & tries hard to please. Pepper would be perfect with kids and other animals. Paula's arrival was a different story. This sweet baby was found tied to the bench when we came back from town last fall. There was no note or explanation .. whoever brought her to us just tied her to a bench & left. We didn't even see her when we pulled up. Pat found her after we had been here for maybe thirty minutes. She's just about the same color as the rock up here. She did not make a sound and was scared to death but what a precious baby. She is now about a year old & ready for her "furever home". We are so happy that these 2 precious girls have been adopted together. As we receive new updates, we will post the new pictures here. We look forward to many more pics & updates in the future. Updates are posted with the most recent on top. UPDATE 4/11/2005: Both Pepper and Paula are doing great. We are working on rebuilding the back fence and filling in the holes in the back yard. Paula is the watchdog. She lets us know anytime anything moves outside her area. The rest of the time, she likes to lay under the add-on we're putting on the house. When I feed them, she always runs to the first bowl as I fill it up, then the second, the third, and finally (for some reason) back to the second bowl. Pepper is soooo laid back. She and George seem to get along best. As soon as Paula leaves the first food bowl, they share what's in it, then go the third bowl and share it. At least once a day, I take treats to the fence for them. They line up Pepper, Paula, and George. I feed their treats in the reverse order. George has known how to sit since obedience school, Pepper learned it somewhere (she sat the first time she was in the yard and I told George to sit), and Paula has now picked it up. They get about three treats a piece, but have to sit for them. This is definitely hardest for Paula. She is so full of energy that "sit" is almost torture. You take care. I will definitely keep you posted. UPDATE 3-12-2005: Paula is doing wonderfully today. Running and playing in the backyard with George and Pepper. They are all having a great time. UPDATE 3-11-2005: Hope you like these. Paula is terrified of coming in the house and of being on a leash. She took to my hubby right away. She and George seem to like each other, and Pepper and George are playing like old pals. We stopped at Sonic for burgers and water when we got to Jacksboro. Paula stood up the whole way to Bridgeport. They seem to be happy and settling in. I'll keep you posted. Also including pictures of my horses.
