Kita's Story Has a Happy Ending
Best if read from the bottom up
*****

Kita has been adopted!! - January, 2004.   Her former owner could not cope with her needs & released her to Animal Angels.  For her, there is a happy ending.  We thank those of you who contributed to help with the cost of her surgery.  Kita is among the lucky ones who find their way into our care & for whom the outcome is good.  We could not make this happen without the financial donations of people like you, our Supporters.  Thank You!!

UPDATE:  Kita has now had the second surgery to amputate her mangled leg at the shoulder.  At the same time, Dr. Lillard spayed her & found that she had indeed been impregnated, probably about the same time she was hit by the car.   These pics were taken the day after her surgery.  She is doing well & we expect her to fully recover.  Past experience has proven that most dogs quickly adapt to the loss of a leg if properly removed at the shoulder or hip.   Kita will go to a foster home to recuperate so that she can be monitored & kept indoors & quiet.  The pic at left highlights Dr. Lillard's skill  by the almost undetectable incision, which should heal with only a hairline scar.  We thank those of you who have made donations to help defray the cost of Kita's surgery & care.

Contributions for the Emergency Fund, which will be needed for the next animal in crisis, can be mailed to the Sanctuary or made via the PayPal buttons below.  We greatly appreciate all donations of any size.  Thank You.

Recently Carole was approached by a young lady who asked for help for her mom's dog.  She stated that the dog had been hit by a car the night before & that "there were bones sticking out of her leg" & that her mom could not afford veterinary care.

Carole drove to Perrin, a small rural community in Jack County, and found the dog in the back yard of the home.  Her leg had been completely crushed & was hanging only by shreds of tendons & ligaments.  The dog was already in the process of trying to chew it off.

Carole rushed the dog back to Jacksboro where our wonderful vet, Dr. Paul Lillard, met her at the clinic & performed emergency surgery to remove the mangled portion of the leg & began antibiotics & other stabilizing medications. (see pic at right)  As soon as she is deemed ready to undergo major surgery, we will spay her & do a proper amputation of the leg at the shoulder.

It will be weeks before this little dog is well enough to return to her home.  She will need extensive hospital care & after-surgery recuperation treatment.  Even at the reduced rates afforded by our vet, this will be a major drain on our limited resources.  The owner of the dog cannot afford to help pay this bill so we are appealing to the animal lovers among you.

It is only with your donations & support that we are able to come to the aid of emergency-need animals like this one.  Because you care & express your concern in the form of monetary donations, we were able to help this injured dog.  Now, we need your support to replace the money in this small emergency fund so that we will be able to respond when the next call for help comes.  Please be generous.  The next animal we are called to help might belong to someone you know.
