Ranger

Ranger came to us as a young adult stray.  The Sanctuary was his home for a little over a year.  Then one day in July, 2004 .. his very "Special Person" saw him on our website and Ranger has now taken his place as a cherished member of a wonderful family.   We wish them all the very best & look forward to many updates & pictures from home.

Update from home .. July, 2004 ... So far things are  well.  Ranger is truly a precious gem.  He is somewhat disoriented right now, but I am going to take a chance on him tonight and let him sleep in my bedroom.   He is extremely smart.  And if he goofs up it certainly not the first time that I have cleaned up after a  dog.  Ranger seems to have everything down pat, except for obedience training.   My experience has been that you can love your dogs, but if they are not obedience trained, no one else is going to like them.  No dog wants to be a bad dog.  My neighbors stop by when the are taking their dogs for a walk, and ask if they can take Mort with them,   I think that Ranger will be that kind of dog one day.  He is personality plus.  Thanks for introducing us  You are my true picture of animal rescue.

and the next day ...  We went for a walk this morning.  He is exceptionally well obedience trained.  I wonder what happened to his home.

This is a picture of Ranger and his new brother and mom.  Mort, his older bro, has already perked up considerably.  He was really depressed after his older sister passed away.  She was 15 years old.  Ranger has a really terrific home.

Update 1-23-2005:  Ranger & his Mom came to visit a few weeks ago.  Ranger had a good time visiting all his old friends but he was definitely ready to go home with Mom.  We just recently got this update & some new pictures:

My husband sometimes says, "You really love that dog, don't you." Sometimes, he says that  "She likes me more than you Ranger."  Family joke.

Ranger rocks!  He totally rocks!  He is so smart and so trainable, and by the way so so devoted to me.  I have to be careful with Ranger because of his size and his intense watchful eyes..  However they do scare people that like the lap dog look.   I know that he was abused by a man, because it took him a long time to get used to Bob.   At first, he would crawl up to him on his belly, in a total act of submission.  However, I know that you have been through this story a thousand times.

Take care and God Bless you and Pat,
Hugs, Gwen

More from home 4-12-2005:  Here are some pics that I took last weekend. Ranger is now learning to walk backwards and walk on his hind legs, (I trick him into doing it with a tennis ball. As you know, Ranger will do anything for a tennis ball.) He can catch a frisbee the length of a football field. We have a special frisbee that will go farther. That  dog is smarter than a lot of people that I know. (smile) And is better natured as well.
