Rex

On a particularly cold night around the first week in January of 2004, this big dog happenedto wander up to the home of a very nice lady who felt sorry for him and gave him refuge in her garage for the night. She called us the next day asking if we could help her find where he came from or find him a home.

The only thing I could find wrong with him was some hair loss on his legs and on his side.  This could have been mistaken for mange.   Rather than go to the vet, it’s possible they just took him to the lake (Eagle Mountain) and turned him out.

He was little on the skinny side, weighing only 75 lbs.  He should weigh 85 to 100 lbs.  We gave him a good bath and dried him.  All the while, he stood very still like a perfect gentleman.  His coat shines and you almost don’t notice the hair loss.  We did find out he is already neutered and he doesn’t have mange.  His hair loss is likely due to a poor diet.  I think he’s been on the road for quite a while.  The vet gave him a clean bill of health & we set about finding him the perfect home with people who will cherish him for the magnificent creature that he is.

UPDATE - 5/11/2004:  from Rex's "furever home":

Rex is doing great, I just took him to Petsmart to buy some food snacks and toys. He rode great in the car and is doing tremendous with the kids and family. He still is a little nervous around the house, he has not yet attempted to go upstairs. He is so quiet it is a little scary, he has not made a sound since we've met him. He does seem to be a little scared, especially of me, but this will pass with time. I believe we have found a wonderful dog and we are very pleased. Thank you for what you are doing.  It does make a difference especially to us.
Talk to you soon,
Dale
