We've
named this sweet female Rottie, Sarah. She was brought into the
Jacksboro Animal Hospital (Dr. Paul Lillard) last
Thursday afternoon (Sept. 3) . She had been observed being hit
by an 18 wheeler on Belknap (Hwy 380) that runs through
Jacksboro, TX. She was with another dog (that was not hit) but
ran off. The driver of the 18 wheeler did stop and was
really upset about the accident but he can't be held
responsible. Those responsible were the people who did not care
that their dogs were out, putting not only their dogs at risk
but innocent motorist like this truck driver. The witness
brought her to the hospital. On Friday, we scanned her and
found a Home Again microchip. We traced the microchip and found
she was adopted from San Antonio Animal Control (where she was
chipped and spayed) but we don't know when.
Unfortunately, the adopters failed to register the chip and all
we could get out of the shelter in San Antonio is the last name
(Stubblefield) of the person who adopted her. The phone no. on
their records had been disconnected.
The injury
is to her left back leg. There wasn't much that could be done
except to x-ray her and keep her comfortable until after the
Labor Day Weekend. After five days, by Tuesday, Sept. 8, nobody
had called animal control or the vet so Animal Angels took over
her care. On Wednesday, Sept. 9, Dr. Granville Wright at The
Animal Hospital on Teasley Lane in Denton, Texas, performed an
FHO (femoral hip ostomy) and Sarah is now recovering at our
sanctuary near Jacksboro. Sarah is one lucky girl. She'll have
a fairly quick recovery and she'll be as good as new in a couple
of months and more importantly, she'll still have her leg.
If anyone is
interested in adopting this awesome girl, please contact us
directly. We haven't known her long enough to know much about
her other than she's good with other dogs and is extremely
gentle. She was in shock and I imagine, in a great deal of pain
when she was first brought into the hospital but she never
growled or showed any aggression when she was being examined by
the vet and staff. She's had her rabies and other vaccinations
updated and is heartworm negative. As time goes by, we'll learn
more about her but what she really needs now is her very own
home and family.
