Sydney
(aka Christine)

Christine is a Black Mouth Cur.  She is blind in her left eye, possibly from blunt force trauma.  She may have been hit by a car on the left side at some time or she might have been severely beaten.  She's got lots of old scars on her so she's had a tough life thus far.  Christine is a middle-aged lady who deserves a loving home to spend her remaining years in.  She is quiet, gets along well with the other dogs & does not seem to be physically harmed by her past experiences other than the blind eye.  She has been spayed & is in good health & ready to go to her "furever" home.

In December, 2003, Christine became a cherished family member in what is now her "furever" home.  Her new "Mom" has recently sent the following note & pictures.  Looks like our girl is doing well.

UPDATE - 6/29/2004 .. Christine is now known as Sydney.  This picture pretty much sums Sydney's life up!  She gets on the furniture with us and now sleeps in the bed with me! ha!  She's gotten very spoiled as you can see.  She loves her humans and has begun to show signs of being protective of us, which takes confidence on her part - something she's never had.  She's my shadow, but has also developed a bond with my husband that is amazing, considering she is still very afraid of men.  When any of us come home, (by the way, she's totally an inside dog), she literally spins circles in the living room floor and then sits and waits to be petted.  She gets on "tears" through the house, playing with toys from her toy basket.  Syd is still fearful of loud noises and if she acts protective, she shakes afterward, so she still has a ways to go in being confident and secure.  But we'll get there!

Anyway, you've been on my mind lately, so I just wanted to let you know what a sweet blessing she is to our household.

Update 1-03-2005:  The latest on Sydney is "she has definitely found her furever family".

We've now had Syd for one year and she has melded into our family better than we could have hoped for.  She is an inside dog, has her side kick "Millie", a 6 pound Rat Terrier to play with, her 4 humans to love her, toys to play with, sleeps in the bed with mom (yes, all 60 pounds of her) and is sooooooo loved by all.

As you could see when you visited us recently, she has free reign of the house, furniture and toys.  This picture was taken  Christmas morning and shows her with one of the many toys  she and Millie got for Christmas.

Since she came from an abusive background, she still takes some time to warm up to people, and sometimes doesn't warm up to some men at all except for my husband, and it took a long time for her to trust him.  She now firmly believes the sun rises and sets in "dad".  They sit together on the couch where she literally becomes a 60# lap dog, and they also eat cereal together every night!  She loves to lay in the living room floor with both my teenage daughters and dad playing  X Box, and insists on being in the middle of it all, which is where we believe she deserves to be!  I can't thank you enough for finding Syd and keeping her until God brought us to your organization.  When we got Syd, we had just lost our family dog of 12 years and we had a lot of love to give, which Sydney returns a hundred times over.  She is a blessing to our family!

Take care,
Lisa

Webmaster note:  Sidney is one of the many "less than perfect" dogs that often find their way into rescue organizations.  She is living proof that just because she's blind in one eye, it doesn't keep her from being a sweet, loving pet.  There are many less than perfect animals just like her waiting for their opportunity to love & be loved.  May God bless Sydney & her family.
