Rollie is now Ty

Rollie the sweet young Golden Retriever came to us as many of our charges do; tired, dirty, hungry & more than a little the worse for wear.  Proper medical treatment & good food, along with large doses of TLC usually bring them around to where they are ready for adoption & a second chance at the good life they deserve.

As Rollie relaxed & began to act like a playful dog, we noticed that he had a slight limp.  X-rays confirmed that he has early stage hip dysphasia in the right hip.  This didn't deter his new Mom from deciding to adopt him.  If anything, it made her more determined to take him & provide him with all the love & comfort he needs.  Updates from home confirm that he is the cherished family member we knew he would be.   May God bless Ty & his new family.  Updates are listed with the most recent on top.

Update 3-12-2005:  (This is the end result that we pray all our adopted angels will know in their new homes.  It is why we do what we do.)

Hi Carole,

I have been meaning to give you an update on Ty for sometime now.

I wanted to let you know....We are so happy with the outcome of "adopting" Ty. My youngest son comes home from school everyday and rolls around on the floor with Ty and I hear him saying, "ohhh, Ty, I love you so much!!" Ty has adjusted to our family so well and I can't really remember him not being here with us. (I don't think he remembers anything else either.) After the first few months of getting him on his feet to perfect health, he has been wonderful. We take him with us everywhere, and no one can believe he is a "rescue" dog. They all say, "But he is beautiful and so well mannered." I just smile!

Thanks Carole for all you do! What a blessing you are to these animals. Ty is so happy and we are too!

PS:  I forgot to update you on Ty's hip dysplasia. I forgot, because it is such a non-issue to him. I give him a half of chewable Glucosamine pill every day, that he thinks is a treat, and he shows NO signs of limping, or being bothered by his hip. He runs around the back yard at full speed with no worries. Hopefully this will continue to be a non-issue!

Thanks again :)

Update 10-23-2004:

Hi Carole,

I have been meaning to write you a note this week, "Ty" is doing so great.   Yesterday, I had a party over here with about 12 ladies and they all got to meet Ty and couldn't believe what a sweet well-behaved dog he was. :) He greeted everyone at the door and then and came and laid by our feet the entire time. (I told them I can't take credit for that, I haven't had him long enough to teach him those manners, I just lucked out!!!) Everyone asked how I found him and I gave out your website and wouldn't be surprised if at some point one of my friends contacts you. She was very interested.  Talk to you soon.

Update 10-12-2004:

We made it home fine yesterday. Rollie is a great car-rider.  I gave him a bath and got him all cleaned up to wait for the boys to get home.  We were sitting outside when they walked in and my husband said as he headed for the back yard, " I see a BIG dog bowl on the counter!!??"  Well my youngest son's eyes were as big as saucers when he saw Rollie, and asked, "what does this mean mom?, is he going to be ours?"

This silly dog is the sweetest thing I have ever been around.....but he was really  having some trouble getting around my house last night. We have lots of stairs, going into the front door and going into the house from the garage. He wouldn't even attempt to go up our stairs to the second floor in our house (which is not a bad thing).

I had him sleep in a kennel last night and he did great and was so excited to see me this morning. He follows me around all over. If I get up to get a drink of water he goes right with me. He follows my other little dog outside to use the bathroom - no problem there.

My husband is just very  worried about this sweet dog's quality of life. He just can't get over how docile and loving this dog is. I told my husband last night that after we go to the vet today we will make a decision on what we will do, but I know I can not bring him back to you. Rollie is just too sweet to live among all those other dogs in that kennel. I feel like he is a handicapped child and needs very special attention, I just don't know with the way our house is laid out what we need to do.

After observing him some more this morning, it seems his biggest problem is getting from a sitting position to a standing position. It must hurt him to sit. He only spend a second sitting before he lies down. He hasn't stayed in the sitting position one time since we have had him. He is either standing or lying.  I will keep you updated.
